The Charity

‘On May 25th 2020, the world changed.

The senseless and shocking death of George Floyd triggered one of the biggest (and most necessary) global protests in history, putting the Black Lives Matter movement in the spotlight like never before. But with this tragedy also came the birth of Black Minds Matter U.K — a charitable fund set up just days later, designed to connect Black individuals and families with free, professional, mental health resources and services — including up to 12 sessions of therapy with a certified, culturally competent, Black therapist.

Now more than ever, we understand the harmful effects of racial discrimination across the country. In fact, we consider it a state of emergency for the wellbeing of the Black community. Violence against Black individuals in the U.S. — like George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Elijah McClain to name a few — and the history of systemic racism here in the U.K., are deeply triggering realities for the Black community to be faced with on a daily basis. Add to that a health pandemic that disproportionately affects Black people, and a struggling NHS mental health service — and it’s not hard to see why a cause like Black Minds Matter U.K. was so needed.’ – Black Minds Matter UK.
